DESPAIR HAS ITS OWN CALMS

2019 -

“I passed to my room and went to bed, and, strange to say, slept without dreaming. Despair has its own calms.”
- Johnathan Harker,
Dracula
By Bram Stoker

Each day, falling further in to despair due to individuals and certain situations in life, as well as just fear of the unknown can really enable you to just give up. You then find yourself accepting your fate and just going through life with the flow, day in, day out. All the effort you put in is hopeless, feeling as if you’re just making things worse, as your mind will make you to believe. So passing the time without caring, worrying or even thinking about anything at all, So you give in completely. You allow it all to consume you, at first you resist but then in time you have no choice until you are drowning in the numbness that is despair itself in all its dark glory. But where did that all get you?

The contrast of this series compared to my ‘Instruments of Darkness’ is evident. However the theme of mental health is still the key factor.
For me, they are twin photographic series’.

You are not alone.
You are loved.
You are enough.
Don’t give in, and never feel ashamed, embarrassed or scared. There is always someone wanting to listen and to allow you to vent out all your emotions. Bottling it up and giving in further to the depths of despair is never the way, it will make it worse in the long run.
You are more than your mental health and the state it makes you believe you are in. It is VITAL for you to realise you are not alone in this at all.
